From the Mountain Gorillas, our visitors get to tour the Nyungwe’s highland thick forests which contain over 200 spices of trees. This is home to the common chimpanzee, Ruwenzori colobus arboreal monkeys that are made of up to 400 individuals, the largest troop size of any primate in Africa. These co-exist in the forests with over 100 bird spices, insects and reptiles.
Since Rwanda is covered by the rift-valley and is just a distance from the equator, the country’s climate has influenced presence of savanna grassland which supports the safari animals from lions, elephants, buffaloes, zebra and much more all found in Akagera national Park in the southern region of the country. Through partnerships and donations from other African parks, Rwanda has been able to recover its Rhino population, lions which where high affected by poaching in the early 1990s.

When to Visit Rwanda?
“Summer” this is the best time to visit Rwanda. Rwanda has only two seasons, the dry and the wet season. The longest is the dry season is it’s the perfect time to visit the country. From December to March, July to September, during these times the rains and irregular making the trekking way easier since the path ways are quite try. Gorillas are as well loose and more accessible almost everywhere in the park, feeding and moving around the forests. But what’s the purpose of adventure without uncertainty, the best time to visit Rwanda is anytime, every time has its own surprises while in the parks and you have to be there to witness it!!

Rwanda Gorilla Tours:
The hottest tourist’s destination in the country is Volcanoes National park, located in the North-western covered by 160km2 of rainforests bordering both Uganda’s Mgahinga National Park and Congo’s Virunga national Park is the home of the Mountain gorillas and the golden monkeys. Besides the primates, the park hosts other mountains namely Karisimbi, Bisoke, Muhabura, Gahinga and Sabyinyo mountains. It`s these mountains that make the Gorillas Mountain Gorillas. Mountain Gorillas can only be found in Uganda, Rwanda and Congo, these primates can’t be spotted obviously. Their long, dark and thick fur protecting them from the harsh conditions of the Mountains cold temperatures has ensured their existence.
What to expect on a Rwanda Gorilla safari;
At this point, everything is about the primates, and visitors should be ready to be mind blown. By early as 7am, trekkers must be at the Kinigi Park Headquarters for a brief on the dos and don’ts while on the trek plus any more relevant information. Trekkers are then assigned a park ranger in consideration of age, body fitness and what the visitor is highly interested in. The trek starts with a 30 minutes’ hike into the park mountainous forests deep into the park to a height of 8202 to 13132 feet above sea level. At these heights is where visitors get to see different gorilla families as they are scattered through the forests. It`s advised and allowed for visitors to move with cameras, they can take pictures of the primates but only at the advice of the rangers. The rangers know when, where and which gorilla families are familiar with visitors, so its highly advised to listen to the rangers throughout your trek.

Getting to the popular destinations:
All the popular destinations in the country are easily accessed by road. In about 2 to 3 hours from Kigali, visitors can access Volcanoes National Park which is only 116 kms compared to destinations in Uganda which takes 7 to 8 hours to reach Mgahinga National Park. This makes gorilla trekking in Rwanda easier and simpler.
The road network gives access to the National parks in the country which are shorter and smoother as well. Visitors can visit Nyungwe Forest National Park for chimpanzee trekking, bird viewing, canopy walks, Akagera National Park for safari drives to see the big five in the wilderness, nature walks, bird viewing and much more.
